Put a ring on it!!

I haven't posted in FOREVER! - whoops! Since I last posted, I:
  • graduated my Masters program! {can I get a woot woot?!}
  • ran a half marathon with a new PR!
  • GOT ENGAGED to my wonderful man <3
  • AND GOT A JOB AS A FIRST GRADE TEACHER!!!!!
 Yes, I am a first year, first grade teacher and I couldn't be more excited!

And yes, my man put a ring on it! A ring that I am obsessed with I might add.
Isn't it just lovely?? And he picked it out all by himself {although I'm pretty sure his sister helped him a little :)}

Stay tuned for more adventures from a newly engaged, first grade teacher!!

Weekend Project

This weekend was beautiful in VA! We had about a week straight of rain so the sun was so nice to see!! It was also perfect weather for a DIY project :)

My boyfriend's house is very small. And has NO storage whatsoever. I'm not kidding. So I bought this piece of furniture from a yard sale for five bucks - what a steal!

My boyfriend's mom got me into chalk paint. If you have never heard of it or tried it out, do it! It is so fun for a distressed look. For this piece, we decided on using Annie Sloan's Duck Egg Blue on the outside and Annie Sloan's Pure inside to give it a little character :)

I will say that using chalk paint is a process because there are a lot of steps. However, it is so worth it! I prefer it over regular painting. Once you have all of the supplies, it is a breeze. They recommend that you have special brushes when you use chalk paint which are a little pricy but worth it.

After a whole day of different coats, sanding (which is what gives the distressed look), and waxing (the finishing coat), here is the finished project:

I think it turned out beautiful! I couldn't be more happy. I like that it is supposed to be distressed because it doesn't matter if the brush strokes were perfect, because I'm not a pro painter by ANY means :)

My absolute favorite part of this piece is the knob. I love love love fun knobs on pieces. I think it completes the piece.

Did I mention that I love this knob??! Almost as much as I love weekend projects and good weather :)

Mentor Teacher Gifts

Last Friday April 18th was my LAST day of student teaching! I can't believe how fast this whole experience has gone by. I am going to miss my class and students SO much! I'm especially going to miss my mentor teacher. She is an ah-mazing teacher and I hope one day I can be at least half as good as she is!

Throughout my last week, I gave my mentor teacher a different little gift each day. I got the ideas from Pinterest and then created my own labels. You can download my labels for FREE!

On Monday, I gave her two apples because she loves apples and peanut butter for lunch!
On Tuesday, I gave her a pair of fun Spring-y socks. She collects fun socks and shows me her socks everyday so if you're thinking this is a weird gift, it is the perfect fit for her. No pun intended :)
On Wednesday, I gave her highlighters and mints.
On Thursday, I gave her cookies. I don't have a picture of the cookies with the smart cookie label, but you can see the label when you download the FREE sheet of labels!

And on Friday, I gave her an electronic stapler. She was telling me how much she wanted one and how much easier her life would be. It was a little bit more on the the pricey side than what my fellow classmates purchased their mentor teachers but she. was. amazing! She deserved it :)
